Action Research Workshop

By School of Law, University of Leeds

Date and time

Wed, 3 Dec 2014 12:30 - 14:00 GMT

Location

G.33

Liberty Building Leeds University United Kingdom

Description

Charlotte will be discussing the rationale for her legal action research, and outlining arguments for more radical and innovative methodology in legal research on social justice. She is currently advising and advocating on behalf of EU migrants through the Citizens Advice Bureau, and collecting evidence along the way about the problems that they encounter in the UK welfare benefit system. This advice-led ethnography gives some insight into law in the real world, and uses specialist knowledge to benefit CAB clients. In the face of shrinking legal advice options, legal action research can increase access to justice for the socially excluded – not only highlighting problems that are under-researched, but challenging problems that would otherwise go unchallenged.

This event takes place under the rubric of the White Rose Doctoral Training Centre Socio-Legal Studies Pathway, and is open to all doctoral candidates from the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York.
